The Trialmaster is an NPC and an endgame boss. He can be found in the Trial of Chaos, challenging aspirants as directed by his master, Chaos.

Before becoming the Trialmaster, he was known as Ixchel, a human member of the Order of the Djinn.

As a boss

To fight the Trialmaster, the player must first obtain the three Fates (Deadly Fate, Cowardly Fate, Victorious Fate) and complete a Trial of Chaos. Afterwards, the player will be able to insert the three fates into a door in the final room, unlocking access to the Trialmaster's Tower.

Abilities

You cannot pause during the fight.

Mace form:

  • Teleport: Farcical! - Teleports across the arena.
  • Mace Swipe: Swings his mace twice in a row; can turn while attacking.
  • Sunder: Be crushed!/ Fall before me! - Slams the ground, causing a red Sunder
  • Timestop Sunder: Ultimatum!/Entropy! - Pauses time, teleporting and slamming the ground three times, causing delayed Sunders
  • Bloodburst: Be obliterated!/Feel his power! - Sticks his mace into a ground, channeling a large area. The area explodes with blood once he pulls out his mace.
  • Cyclone: Rip and tear! - Swings his weapon 6 or 7 times around while moving slowly towards the player for a duration. Fires shockwaves on random swings.
  • Mace Throw: Chaos aid me! - Fires his mace at the gorund near the player, which periodically causes a Physical nova once embedded in the ground that gradually expands. Transitions to his unarmed form.

Unarmed form:

  • Teleport: Farcical! - Teleports across the arena.
  • Tri-Elemental Mortar: throws three projectiles towards the ground, each doing Fire/Cold/Lightning damage in an area
  • Trialmaster's Heart: Be still! - Places his heart in the arena, linking via a chain (Trialmaster's Tether) to players within its area. Moving away from the Heart will sever the link, causing Physical Damage and inflicting stun.
  • Blood Projectile: Surge of Chaos!/Unamusing! - Fires a large red orb that bounces off the arena's walls, exploding on impact. Has a chance to fork when bouncing off walls.
  • Timestop Projectiles: Ultimatum!/Entropy! Pauses time, teleporting and casting three times, firing delayed Blood Projectile
  • Mace Recall: Chaos aid me! - Recalls his mace, ending the Mace Throw pulses and transitions mace form.

Dialogue

The Trialmaster is voiced by David de Lautour.[2]

Introduction

Long have I awaited a suitable challenger. My master, Chaos, has charged me with this task. Many have attempted my trials in search of greatness. Scholars, criminals, heroes, and the meek. All have stepped forward, and most have fallen. The rules never changed for them, and the rules will not change for you. Bring only that which you can afford to lose - including your life.

The Temple

This once-mighty temple was the bridge from mere peasant to high priest. All were welcome to attempt the Trials of Chaos, and those that attained a true victory were gifted a small measure of power to help forge their own destinies. That is still true, though we have far fewer challengers in this era.

Chaos

My master is the essence of all that might be. They are the flip of the coin, and they are the roll of the die. Whether you win or lose, their purpose is still served. And yet—your chances can be influenced by your skill, by your intellect, and by your might. That is what fascinates Chaos. Skilled mortals can bend their chances, for in the headwinds of the unknown, the arrow of a master falls more assuredly than the arrow of a novice. Show them your mastery, and they will smile upon you. Surprise them with utmost talent, and they may even laugh. Fortune will rain upon those who bring humour to Chaos.
