Walkthrough

Travel to the Grelwood

Travel through Clearfell to the Grelwood and search for any clues about the night the Count took his men out there.

Search the Grelwood

Search the Grelwood for any hint of what might have happened to the Count and his men that fateful night.

Ask Una for help

You have found the Tree of Souls. An ancient entity hangs upon it. Summon Una and ask her for advice.

Una:

This shade... Is it... still alive? Perhaps it can give us the answers we seek. Only the Count's sword has the power to bind souls to the Tree like this. We must free it somehow.

To release that being from the Tree of Souls we'll need more than simply cutting his rope... The ancient runes that imbue the count's blade created the binding, and only ancient runes can break it.

Find the Red Vale

To release the Hooded One, you must find the 3 runes in the Red Vale. Look for the Red Vale in the Grelwood.

Search the Red Vale

This vale is littered with the debris of countless battles. Search it for anything that may still be useful.

  • Search the Red Vale for Obelisks of Rust which contain Runes of Power

Note: There are 3 Obelisks of Rust in the Red Vale. Upon activating an obelisk, a fight will occur. After completing the fight, you will receive 1 of the 3 runed items. Complete all 3 to continue.

Investigate the Obelisks of Rust

Residual magic clearly still resides in the Red Vale. Investigate the Obelisks of Rust for the Runes of Power.

Defeat the Monsters

Destroy the monsters guarding the Rune of Power.

Collect all the Runes of Power in the Red Vale.

Use the Rune Spikes

Stab each Rune Spike into the Ancient Runes on the Tree of Souls to ask it to release the Hooded One.

Meet Una in Clearfell

You have released a dark entity called the Hooded One from the Tree of Souls. Return to Clearfell Encampment and speak to Una.

Una:

The wound... It should be fatal, but somehow he clings to life... I fear it will not be long until his song ends. He will never heal while the count's binding still holds sway.

Only by a Count's hand can this binding be released. I know an old tale. One that speaks of a ring we might be able to recover, buried three centuries ago in our ancient graveyard... A count's signet ring, bearing his rune of Authority. But how to reach it in time...

The Grim Tangle! The overgrown sinkholes and gullies that run beneath Ogham can lead you there. The path is dangerous but... go back to the Grelwood. Find the entrance. We shall see if the spirits of this land still have the will to see you through.
