Legacy of the Vaal is a quest in Act 3.

- Traverse the Chimeral Wetlands in search of the ancient Machinarium: kill Xyclucian, the Chimera
- Enter Jiquani's Machinarium
- Search the Machinarium for a large Soul Core
- Place the small Soul Core into the Stone Altar
- Proceed deeper into the Machinarium
- Explore Jiquani's Sanctum
- Summon Alva
- Talk to Alva
- Search Jiquani's Sanctum for two medium Soul Cores and use them to activate two Generators
- Defeat Zicoatl, Warden of the Core

- Enter The Matlan Waterways and find the control mechanisms

Walkthrough
This quest spawns through the whole Act 3.
At first, The Hooded One asked the player to lower the water level of Utzaal. So that the player travelled to Infested Barrens via Jungle Ruins. Over there, Alva told the player to find a large Soul Core in Jiquani's Sanctum (via Chimeral Wetlands and Jiquani's Machinarium), in order to activate the access to The Matlan Waterways.
The way to the Jiquani's Machinarium is guarded by a unique monster Xyclucian, the Chimera, which also drops 
Chimeral Inscribed Ultimatum for the side quest 
The Trials of Chaos.
