Ascendancy Classes, or simply Ascendancies, are subclasses that allow characters to specialize in a specific archetype based on the character's class. Ascendancies can be unlocked by completing Ascension Trials.
Overview
Choosing an Ascendancy Class after completing an Ascension Trial for the first time allows the player to access a new Ascendancy Skill Tree specific to the class chosen. Currently, each class has a choice of two Ascendancy Classes for a total of 12. The full release will have three Ascendancy Classes for each class, for a total of 36.
Each time the player completes an Ascension Trial condition, the player can receive two additional Ascendancy Skill Points, up to a total of 8 points. These points can be obtained in any Ascension Trial, as long as they meet the requirement. It is possible to repeat the same trial for all 8 points. It is also possible to earn multiple sets of points in a single run as long as each condition is satisfied.

Ascendancy Classes cannot currently be changed once selected.
Ascendancy Skill Tree
The Ascendancy Skill Tree is a smaller skill tree that a character has access to when an Ascension Trial has been completed. Each Ascendancy Class has its own unique tree. It functions similarly to the larger Passive Skill Tree; the player earns Ascendancy Skill Points, which can be spent on allocating nodes granting passive bonuses. The Ascendancy Skill Tree is shown at the center of the Passive Skill Tree.
