Portal
A portal is an is an interactable gateway that allows instant travel between an area and a town in the Act where it is created (or the previous town if the current town is unvisited) or between a map and a hideout. The standard portal appearance can be changed by applying a Portal Effect microtransaction.
Each area can only have one portal active at once. Creating a new portal will remove the previous one.
Creating a portal
Portal has a dedicated keybind. Portal has a fixed cast animation of 2 seconds; the action will be interrupted if you take damage.
Portals in Acts
Player-created portals can be used to travel to town unlimited times by any party members. However, it will disappear once the creator uses it from the town-side. Other party members can use the town-side portal unlimited times. Towns will show portals of other party members who are currently in the same Act of the campaign.
Portals will automatically disappear after the instance they are linked to has expired or if the player logs out. A portal will not expire if a player remains in the area.
When joining another players instance in a party (by clicking the Portal icon on their party portrait), players will spawn at the portal if one exists.
Portals cannot be opened while fighting a boss enemy.
Portals created by a Map Device
When maps are opened in a Map Device, it automatically creates up to 6 portals which link to a portal in the starting area of the map. The portal inside the map can be freely moved.
The number of portals created when opening a map depends on the number of modifiers on the waystone. With 6+ mods, only one portal is created.
When a player dies inside a map, one of their portal will be consumed. If a player runs out of portals, they cannot re-enter the map. Players may freely re-enter a map as long as they have any portals remaining. The number of portals (revives) is tracked per player.
Similarly to acts, portals cannot be opened when fighting map or pinnacle bosses.
