Template:Sic
[sic ]
This template inserts a "[sic]" notation. Sic, which comes from the Latin sīc erat scriptum (thus it was written), is used as a notation to show that a quotation has been reproduced faithfully from its source, removing any doubt as to whether there might be an error of transcription.[1][2]
Usage
Use this template to insert a "[sic]" notation within a quotation. It should be placed immediately after a point in the quotation that contains an apparent error that also exists in the original source. This shows that the quotation has faithfully reproduced the text from its source, which otherwise might be interpreted as a transcription error.
It is incorrect to use this template anywhere except within a quotation. If text copied verbatim from official Path of Exile sources contains apparent errors but is not being overtly quoted, it may be more appropriate to simply edit the text, add explanatory footnotes, or both.
Style guidelines
Take care when using this template. The "[sic]" notation should be used judiciously, and only if readers would naturally doubt the intent of the writer's words. It is not necessary to draw attention to insignificant spelling and typographical errors by using "[sic]". If the intended meaning of the quotation is perfectly clear, such minor mistakes may be silently corrected instead.
This template should not be used as the sole means of indicating an incorrect statement of fact because the truth may not be obvious to the reader. If a factually incorrect statement is only notated with "[sic]", it can cause greater confusion. It is better to give additional context. Adding an explanatory footnote is one way to provide the reader with clarifying information.
