Shield
This page is about the Item Class. For general category of equipment also including quivers, see off-hand equipment.
An Off Hand or off-hand is an item class of equipment that counts as both armour and off-hand equipment. They provide base defences based on their attribute alignment.
Off-hands are further categorized into two sub-classes:
- Shields, which grant chance to block. Certain basetypes also grant the Raise Shield skill.
- Foci (or Focus), which does not grant any chance to block, and can roll caster modifiers.
Mechanics
Off hands can only be equipped in the off-hand weapon slot, and cannot normally be used with two-handed weapons unless Giant's Blood is allocated.
Types of shields
There are 5 main categories of off hands:
- 3 primary attribute categories which require a single attribute and provide an associated defence type.
- "Tower Shield" - Strength - Armour
- "Buckler" - Dexterity - Evasion
- '"Foci" - Intelligence - Energy Shield
- 2 hybrid attribute categories which require two attributes and provide both associated defence types at lower values.
- "Targe" - Strength/Dexterity - Armour/Evasion
- "Kite Shield" - Strength/Intelligence - Armour/Energy Shield
There are no dexterity/intelligence hybrid off hand base types.
