The Pause feature allows players to pause the game.
Mechanics
In most content, the game can be paused by opening a menu. The pause behavior of certain menus depends on the input method currently in use: when using controller input, opening any menu will pause the game, but when using a mouse and keyboard, menus that open in a panel on the side of the screen - such as Inventory and Skills - will not pause the game, allowing players to continue moving while performing inventory actions. Full-screen menus pause the game in every game mode, and non-pausing menus can be opened over them, allowing actions to be performed in those menus while the game is paused - for instance the game can be paused by opening the Passives menu, then the Inventory items can be equipped or Chat messages sent while the game is paused.
Automatic pauses
By default, the game pauses if a controller becomes disconnected. This behavior can be changed via the Game tab of the Options menu.
If you lag (client does not respond for >100ms), the server gets paused, regardless of if you get disconnected or not.[1]. If the lag doesn't resolve in 6 seconds, you will be disconnected from the game.
Unpausable content
The game cannot be paused while in certain content: Pinnacle encounters, and during the Zarokh, the Eternal and Trialmaster boss fights.
