For the support gem, see Volatility (support gem).
Volatility
Tooltip
Volatility detonates after 4 seconds, dealing 100 Physical Damage to you per Volatility. For 10 seconds after detonation, you Gain 1% of Damage as Chaos for each Volatility which detonated. The detonation timer will reset on gaining another stack of Volatility.

Volatility can be gained once every 0.1 seconds, and Volatility does not normally have a maximum (though some effects can set one).

Volatility is a status effect. When Volatility expires, you take physical damage based on the amount of Volatility stacks you had, but also gain extra chaos damage for a duration afterwards.

Mechanics

The Volatility effect itself does nothing. Volatility lasts 4 seconds and gaining stacks of Volatility will refresh the duration. There is a cooldown of 0.1 seconds between gaining stacks of Volatility.

Volatility is capped at 200 stacks. Controlled Chaos will change the limit to 30.

When Volatility expires, you take 100 physical damage per stack of Volatility you had on you and gain 1% of damage as extra chaos damage per stack for 10 seconds.

  • (Hotfix 4) The maximum number of Volatility stacks is now 200. This is additive with the Passive Skill Tree Notable 'Controlled Chaos'. This is a stop-gap fix to temporarily prevent abuse cases that were infinitely stacking Volatility to gain absurd amounts of damage, we will be doing a more final fix at a later time.
