Waypoints are a way of saving your progress throughout Wraeclast. They allow you to travel across areas in the game. They function similarly to their PoE1 counterpart.
Walking near a waypoint will make it glow blue, this permanently unlocks it for this character. You do not need to click on a waypoint to unlock it. Some waypoints are automatically unlocked upon reaching an area or finishing a quest.
Clicking on a waypoint will bring up the map of your current act.

The Travel UI shows the Quest menu, a switch between above ground and underground areas, and the map of the selected Act.
